Veterans Black Sabbath and Slash were honoured at last night’s (June 8th) Kerrang! Awards, while You Me At Six picked up the Best British Band prize at the ceremony which took place at The Brewery in Barbican, London.

The recently reformed Black Sabbath were recognised with the Kerrang! Inspiration Award, while former Guns N Roses guitarist Slash took home the Icon prize. Download, which will be headlined by Sabbath this year, won the Best Festival gong.

Elsewhere, American rockers Mastodon won the Best Album award for their 2011 record ‘The Hunter‘ while Enter Shikari were named Best Live Band.

“So that’s another awards down, for another year, and I think, justice was done in all the categories,” Kerrang! editor James McMahon has said. “Rock in 2012 has more than its fair share of heroes, pioneers, legends – and I’m chuffed a large proportion got to take home an oversized metallic K! for their mantelpiece this evening.’
