Alex James again casts doubt on Blur’s future beyond Hyde Park

Blur‘s future beyond their headline appearance at London’s Hyde Park in August is still in doubt today after the band’s bass player Alex James again suggested they have no concrete plans after the summer gig.

Blur will appear at Hyde Park with The Specials and New Order later this summer for the concert which has been organised to mark the end of the London Olympic Games, and recently confirmed a new double A-side single comprising two songs written especially for the show will be premiered live on Twitter next month.

But, with no suggestion that the songs indicate the band are working on a  new, full length album, James has admitted in a video released today (below), that the forthcoming live performance by Blur may not be repeated again in the future.

“This is something that happens incredibly rarely and who knows if it will ever happen again? Or if this is the end or the beginning of the next chapter,” James said.

“The shows we did in 2009 were the best we’ve ever done and to be asked to close the Olympics was something we didn’t feel we could turn down. I think it’s going to be quite an emotional show, we certainly get quite overwhelmed by playing the songs, which doesn’t happen if you’re playing them all the time.”
