Outkast’s Andre 3000 to play Jimi Hendrix in new biopic

American rapper Andre 3000 will play the part of Jimi Hendrix in a new biopic about the legendary guitarist, reports IFTN.

With filming due to begin in Ireland later this month the movie, to be entitled All Is By My Side, is set to tell the story of Hendrix’s life between 1966 and 1967, beginning with his discovery in a New York club by Rolling Stone Keith Richards‘ then girlfriend Linda Keith who subsequently introduced Hendrix to Chas Chandler.

With his new manager in tow, Hendrix later travelled to London where he recorded the debut album ‘Are You Experienced’. According to reports, the film has been written by John Ridley, who will also act as director.

Andre 3000 has achieved worldwide success as one half of OutKast, who have enjoyed massive hit singles with the likes of ‘Ms Jackson’ and ‘Hey Ya’. His acting career includes roles in the American TV show The Shield and Guy Richie’s 2005 film Revolver.

Update (05/10):

Seems Experience Hendrix, LLC is throwing a road block preventing the movie’s planned production for the moment. They released following statement:

Experience Hendrix, LLC, the family-owned company entrusted with safeguarding the legacy of Jimi Hendrix and administrator of the Jimi Hendrix music and publishing catalog has made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation
