New York has paid tribute to its native Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch of the Beastie Boys, who passed away earlier this month at the age of 47 after losing his battle with the cancer he was first diagnosed with in 2009.

The local government of Yauch’s home state honoured the rapper this week by passing a resolution which declared it was ‘mourning the death of famed rapper and activist Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch’, adding that he had ‘exemplified New York’ in helping to rejuvenate the city during the Beastie Boys’ hugely influential early career.

The senate also recognised Yauch’s work away from the Beastie Boys, praising him as a ‘man of colossal talent and charisma’ when highlighting his associations which groups such as the pro-Tibet Milarepa Fund and the film distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories.

Adam Yauch was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 5th 1964, and would go on to live in the state throughout his life.
