Jack White wants to play vinyl in outer space

Jack White has told the astronaut Buzz Aldrin that he wants his brilliant Third Man Records label to be the first to ‘play a vinyl record in outer space’.

White was speaking to Aldrin for Interview Magazine, and told him he plans to “…launch a balloon that carries a vinyl record player. And figure out a way to drop the needle with all that turbulence up there and ensure that it will still play.”

Later, and on more grounded matters, White also reaffirmed his belief that his trans-Atlantic number one debut solo album ‘Blunderbuss‘ could only have come to fruition following the end of his time with the White Stripes.

“I didn’t want to go out and make solo records if the White Stripes still existed,” he explained. “I thought that people would be too confused by the two ideas and a lot of people wouldn’t be able to get their head around it. So, in a sense, it was something that was bound to happen one day. But I’m sad about it all the time.”
