Ash‘s Tim Wheeler is to score the new film centred around The Stone Roses‘ legendary 1990 Spike Island gig, the movie’s writer has revealed.

Chris Coghill told NME Wheeler will be working with a composer for his film’s score, and also revealed he plans to feature music from a selection of Manchester bands on the production.

“The score is being done by Tim Wheeler from Ash and he’s working with a composer named Ilan Eshkeri,” he explained. “There’s two bands in the film, one of whom are our heroes, they’re called Shadowcaster, and a rival band who are called The Palava. Tim’s written two original tracks, one for each band to use.”

Coghill was in the news earlier this week after apparently telling the BBC he believes The Stone Roses have ‘three or four’ new songs recorded as their 2012 reunion begins in earnest. However, he has now insisted his comments were ‘twisted’, and that he was merely discussing widely reported rumours.

“The original interview has been twisted into something completely different,” he continued. “It’s been widely reported that I’ve said that the band have got three or four tracks recorded. I made the mistake of commenting on rumours, I don’t know if they’ve recorded anything or not. It’s a story that isn’t a story. I’ve got no idea if they’ve recorded anything.”
