Against Me! singer Tom Gabel has told Rolling Stone of his plans to live as a woman and begin a trans-gender process by taking hormones and undergoing electrolysis treatments.
Speaking to the publication, Gabel revealed he has been dealing with gender dysphoria privately for years, and how he plans to take the name Laura Jane Grace and remain married to wife Heather. “For me, the most terrifying thing about this was how she would accept the news,” says Gabel. “But she’s been super-amazing and understanding.”
“I’m going to have embarrassing moments, and that won’t be fun. But that’s part of what talking to you is about – is hoping people will understand, and hoping they’ll be fairly kind.”
Since revealing the news, Gabel has received support from New Jersey band The Gaslight Anthem wrote on their blog today: “How about you leave the guy alone. How about you let another human being make a decision about their lives without your snide prejudices and bigotry? This is one of the hardest decisions a person can make.”Just Published:
