Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis has revealed Adele turned down the chance to headline the festival in 2013 as she felt the gig would be ‘too daunting’.

Adele has previously stated she does not intend to perform at any festivals in the foreseeable future due to big-stage nerves, but Michael Eavis has told Metro he did offer the British star the chance to headline the Pyramid Stage.

“She knows that we want her anyway, but she doesn’t want to do a thing of our size,” he explained. “Going on the Pyramid Stage is a bit daunting in front of 80,000 people, it’s a bit much really.”

With Glastonbury taking a break from a much reduced UK summer festival calendar this year, Eavis did again confirm the main performers for next year are ‘already sorted’, but gave no hints as to the identity of those potential headliners.

2011 proved to be another successful year for Worthy Farm, with Glastonbury picking up the Best Major Festival prize at last year’s UK Festival Awards after another sold-out weekend saw bill-topping performances from Coldplay, U2 and Beyonce.
