Music sales in the UK last week were lower than at any other time this century, reports The Telegraph.

Official Charts Company figures show overall album sales dropped by nearly 25% week-on-week with a total of 1,446,218 units shifted – a figure which is also over 23% lower than the corresponding week in 2011. The sales total is lower than any other of the previous 640 weeks of the 21st century.

The drop in sales was enough for perennial favourite ‘21‘ by Adele to climb back to the top for a 22nd non-consecutive week, while Alabama Shakes managed an impressive top 3 place with their debut album ‘Boys & Girls‘.

Over on the Singles chart, Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen achieved a second week at number one with her track ‘Call Me Maybe‘ after previously holding off a challenge from Justin Bieber last week.
