The 30th anniversary of Manchester’s legendary Hacienda nightclub will be celebrated with three events to be held in the city beginning towards the end of next month.

The ‘X1, X2 and X3’ shows will be held on May 21st, June 2nd, and June 4th respectively, with the first being staged at the location of Hacienda’s car park, which is now an apartment complex. Sankey’s nightclub in Manchester will play host to the final two events. A raft of former Hacienda stalwarts – including Peter Hook, Dave Haslam and Graeme Park – will make appearances over the three dates.

Inspired by the New York nightclubs visited by Factory Records founder Tony Wilson and New Order in the early Eighties, the record label opened its new club – a converted city centre sales room – on 21st May 1982, but was hit with losses approaching £50,000 a month in its early years. However, as a new dance and rave scene gripped the youth of the day, the Hacienda would soon become the spiritual home of Madchester, and by 1988 was the most notorious venue in the UK. It closed its doors for the final time in the summer of 1997.

X1: The Haçienda Apartments Car Park (May 21st) – Line-up TBC
