Laurence and the Slab Boys will release their debut album, ‘Lo-Fi Disgrace’, on Monday 18th June 2012 via Grumpy Recordings. Unlike the countless acts that have gone to Berlin in the last 30 years to capture and exploit the city’s still-unfolding cultural history in their recordings, Larry “Laurence” Reid found himself there by default rather than design. His previous band, the Cinematics, moved there from Glasgow, but shortly after his arrival the band collapsed without warning, leaving Reid in a strange city with only his Fender Jazzmaster, a Vox amplifier, a suitcase full of clothes, and no obvious road back home.”

“‘Holdin’ Me brings a foot-stomping, jailhouse blues-rock song from Darin Bennett and the Requiem to life with a high speed chase and gun fight through the desert. A single continuous take shot across a mile of desert road, floats around the screen, creating alternate compositions and other views of the action.”

“The first video from the Dissociates critically acclaimed “Drown This Town” EP has been released for the lead track Kick & Shove. London’s jerky staccato jagged guitar band are constantly compared to bands such as Gang Of Four, Fugazi, The Clash, Future Of The Left, Pulled Apart By Horses, Wire, Pixies, Dananananakroyd, Biffy Clyro and other oddballs, and have been having a busy year – and this video is kicking off a busy Spring / Summer. Famed for their impressive and loud live show, this was shot last summer at their show at the Old Blue Last.”

Sons Of Noel And Adrian have revealed the first in a series of video previews in anticipation of their brand new album Knots, which will be released on 21 May on various formats across different labels; Broken Sound (Forest Fire, Rachael Dadd, The Mariner’s Children, Eyes & No Eyes) will put out the CD, Willkommen the digital and on One Inch Badge it shall be released on vinyl.”

Ill Murray are a four piece from Cambridge who formed in July 2011 out of the ashes of various short-lived local bands and have already released two EPs, with more on the way. Their work ethic is at odds with their sound, which is reminiscent of lo-fi slacker rock titans Pavement, with other influences including Mission of Burma and Sonic Youth. They have played with, amongst others: Advert, Islet, The Minutes, Letlive, and they’re on their way to becoming regulars at The Old Blue Last and The Macbeth in London, which put on some of the world’s hottest up and coming bands.”

Jape follow the release of last year’s critically acclaimed album Ocean of Frequency with a new single Please Don’t Turn The Record Off / It’s Shadow Won’t Make Noise , out June 4th on Music/Is/For/Losers. Infused with a jubilant, hook-laden melody and a buoyant charm, ‘Please Don’t Turn The Record Off” quickly burrows its way into your consciousness. Both sincere and danceable, it’s a foil to the subtler shades present on the rest of Ocean of Frequency.”

“Fresh from sellout UK tours with The Cribs and Allo Darlin’, Leeds indie-pop band This Many Boyfriends have returned with their toe-tappingly catchy new single ‘(I Should Be A) Communist’ which they say is about “our bass player, money and cardigans”. Produced by The Cribs’ frontman Ryan Jarman, it’s out on May 21st through Angular Recording Corporation.”

Saturday Sun are a 4 piece hailing from Swanage. They live in an abandoned Grammar School, play music and enjoy themselves. They are Alex Hedley (guitar and vocals), Bill Merrick (guitar), Alec Harrison (Bass) and Luke Kill (Drums). Alex with his sublime and powerful vocals combines a wonderful songwriting partnership with Bill where they create charming and affective music that strike an emotional chord with the listener.”

Allo Darlin’ follow-up their critically acclaimed and hugely successful self-titled debut with their new album Europe. The London-based four-piece – led by Australian songbird Elizabeth Morris, with guitarist Paul Rains, Bill Botting on the bass and Michael Collins on drums – create perfect, sophisticated pop gems and know how to put on a joyous, effervescent, fun-filled live show.”

“‘The Lady Is Not For Turning’ first reared its striking head in 2008, pushing  The Novellos to the No.3 spot of the Indie Charts thanks to support and radio play from Steve Lamacq which included a session at the Maida Vale studios for his ‘In New Music We Trust’ programme later that year. With near future collaborations between SONS records and Lamacq – and also his BBC colleague Chris Hawkins – it seems that The Novellos will get the vital air play desired to push their new releases.”

“Auteurs / Velvet Underground / Sonic Youth inspired North Londoners, BalloonMan eschew hype in favour of gigging solidly and perfecting their craft so they already blow most better-known bands out of the water.”

“February saw the release of “Put Your Back N 2 It”, the sophomore album from Perfume Genius – a gorgeous collection of bruised yet strangely optimistic piano ballads from one Mike Hadreas. Winning praise on both sides of the Atlantic (everyone from the Guardian and the Independent on Sunday to Pitchfork and Spin) it signalled the transition of Hadreas from beloved cult artist into one of the most important and exciting artists of his generation.”

“On June 18th, Duke Special will be releasing his first new “commercial” music album ‘Oh Pioneer’. As a prelude to this new chapter in his musical journey, Duke Special will be releasing ‘Punch Of A Friend’ on April 27th as a free digital download via his website.”

Anderson, McGinty, Webster, Ward & Fisher may well be a mouthful, but they are worth tasting. Forged on the banks of the River Tay, the Dundee-rooted musical collective (“We think of ourselves more as that than as a ‘band’,” says Anderson) are centred around three singers – Stevie Anderson, Gavin McGinty, Dave Webster – who all bring their individual songs to the table. Billy Fisher and Robbie Ward complete their line-up.
