First ever full American Beatles concert to be shown in US cinemas

beatles11The Beatles‘ first ever full concert on American soil will be shown in US cinemas next month as part of a new 92-minute documentary entitled The Beatles: The Lost Concert.

The gig in question took place at the Washington Coliseum on February 11th 1964, just two days after The Beatles’ debut appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show officially announced the spread of Beatlemania to the States.

The film will look at the genesis and lasting impact of The Beatles on the United States, and features interviews with over 20 Beatles associates, journalists, disc jockeys, concert attendees, historians and musicians – who include Chuck Berry and Mark Ronson.

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has said of the gig: “This blows away every performance I’ve ever seen, including Elvis!”

The original master tapes, which have been unseen in their entirety by audiences for 47 years – hence the ‘lost’ theme – have been fully restored and remastered, and will receive their world premiere at New York’s Ziegfield Theatre on May 6th, with a wider release for the rest of the US following on May 17th and May 22nd.
