Cat Power has confirmed her ninth studio album ‘Sun‘ will be released in September.

The record is the follow-up to 2008’s ‘Jukebox‘, which consisted largely of covers, and is due for release on September 10th.

The news follows the release of the single ‘King Rides By‘ late last year as a download from Cat Power’s official website, the proceeds of which were donated to the Festival Of Children Foundation charity. An accompanying video featuring boxer Manny Pacquiao was also released.

When describing her plans for the album as it entered its early stages of recording towards the end of 2010, Cat Power told Rolling Stone of her intention to play every instrument on the record, explaining:

“There’s an inspiration in being furious that you want to achieve your goals. I think I was inspired by being disappointed in myself that I’d just been holding the microphone and I was disappointed in myself that I hadn’t been playing an instrument.”

“I think I wanted to prove to myself that I could try to create a relationship with it again and feel like I felt close to it. It’s definitely there and it’s a need, but it hasn’t been around.”
