Portishead‘s multi-instrumentalist Geoff Barrow has said the band will ‘definitely’ release a new album in the near future, and are planning on beginning work on the record very soon.

After an eleven-year break, Portishead released their third album – entitled ‘Third‘ – in 2008, and Barrow has told The Quietus the trio have been meeting up recently to discuss plans for a follow up.

“We’ve been getting together recently and talking about lots of stuff,” he said. “There’s definitely going to be another record, we’re just going to get on it as soon as my studio gets working.”

Barrow also spoke of Portishead’s 2011 touring schedule, which he believes was a huge success for the band. “It inspired us because people were into it, but in terms of where it takes us musically, it inspired us because that’s where it stops,” he continued. “That tour was almost a continuation of the ATP we did in 2007, 2008, it was the same band, pretty much the same set, lots of ‘Third’ and lots of bits of other stuff, so now we want to move forward.”
