Metallica to begin recording next album ‘very soon’

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has revealed the veteran band could release their new album without a record label after the expiration of their deal with Warner.

“We’re free and clear of our record contract,” Ulrich said. “The world’s our oyster. We can basically do whatever we want. And we’re going so start figuring that out.”

Later, Ulrich explained how the band plan to begin recording the new album ‘very soon’, and has said free from the shackles of record company control, they could come up with a ‘wacky’ way of issuing and promoting the record.

“We’re writing music and we’re going to be recording very soon,” he continued. “At some point we’re going to want to share that with people that are interested in listening to it. So we gotta figure out ways we want to do that, from giving it away in cereal boxes to getting people to do handstands for it. We could come up with something wacky.”

Metallica released their ninth and most recent studio album ‘Death Magnetic‘ in 2008. Their collaborative effort with Lou Reed, ‘Lulu‘, arrived in October last year.
