Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson will be treading the boards towards the end of this year in a stage production of The War Of The Worlds, when he will take on the role originally played on stage by David Essex.

Wilson will play the part of the Artillery Man in the play, and will star along side We Will Rock You’s Kerry Ellis and a hologram of actor Liam Neeson, who plays The Journalist.

“Jeff Wayne’s The War Of The Worlds is part of the musical landscape and I have always been a fan,” Wilson has said. “It has long been held up as a fantastic piece of music and it is close to so many people’s hearts. It is daunting to do because people love it so much. But I want to start doing things that scare me. I got the email from Jeff Wayne inviting me to be a part of it and that is not something you can say ‘no’ to.”

The production will tour the UK and Ireland in December this year, before moving across to mainland Europe.
