Foo Fighters will return to Belgium’s Pukkelpop festival in August, a year after four fans were tragically killed at the event, leading to the US band cancelling their appearance.

Organisers have described Foo Fighters’ return as a ‘meaningful, symbolic gesture’ following the heavy storms of 2011 which caused injury to over 70 people when staging and screens collapsed.

A government report later absolved the festival’s organisers of any blame for the events of last summer, instead attributing the cause to a ‘natural disaster’. The report’s findings meant the event and its attendees could not be covered by insurance, so instead organisers have announced they will be offering food and drink vouchers over the next three years as compensation to those who were affected by the cancellation in 2011.

Foo Fighters will headline the final night of Pukkelpop, which is due to take place between 16th-18th August. Also booked for 2012 are The Stone Roses, The Black Keys, Björk, Bloc Party and Hot Chip.
