Cairo Knife Fight – Rock’s Biggest Sounding Two Piece?

There’s been some pretty triumphant late additions over the years. Pulp at Glastonbury 1995. Denmark at the 1992 European Football Championships. What about the motorcycle chase in The Great Escape? Well, at Live4ever’s party at the South By Southwest festival earlier this month, we experienced our own.

Riding in on a bandana-encrusted stallion with a last minute invitation in hand, New Zealand’s Cairo Knife Fight proceeded to put on a show of true rock n roll glory, leaving those in attendance agreed in a verdict unanimously built around the words ‘show’ and ‘stealers’.

After evolving from drummer Nick Gaffaney’s solo recording project, Cairo Knife Fight arrived in Austin armed with two EPs dripping in licks, riffs and 70s showmanship, and were an undoubted hit when performing on the afternoon of Live4ever’s Two Finger Salute II party.

After their gig, the band took the time out to speak to Live4ever’s Liz Lomax and VenueOne.com about their SXSW experience, the story behind their memorable live setup, and supporting Foo Fighters on the band’s recent New Zealand tour.
