Blur are set to debut another new song at their Hyde Park show this summer, which bassist Alex James has described as ‘a hymn’ and ‘a real tear-jerker’.

James broke the news during an appearance on Top Gear yesterday (March 4th), when he told host Jeremy Clarkson: “We’ve got a new song to unveil, I just listened to it this morning.”

Later, he added Blur’s comeback appearance at the Brit Awards last month was a great experience for the band, commenting: “It was utterly magnificent to get back together and smash those songs out again.”

Blur will make their first major UK live appearance since 2009 when they perform at Hyde Park on August 12th to mark the end of the 2012 London Olympics. They are due to headline an impressive bill which also includes New Order and The Specials.

During a pre-Brits show at the Shepherds Bush Empire in February, James’ Blur bandmates Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon unveiled another new track, ‘Under The Westway‘, during the charity performance.
