Happy MondaysBez has told NME he will not be a major part of the band’s reunion plans.

Bez had been widely expected to dust off his maracas and join the rest of the ‘classic’ Mondays line-up when they embark on a comeback UK tour in May. However, when speaking to NME at the publication’s awards ceremony last night (February 29th), Bez revealed that a spate of injuries is going to prevent him from taking his place along side Shaun Ryder onstage.

“I won’t be on the stage because my performing days are over,” he said. “Basically I’m too old. I’m incapable of doing the job, I’m carrying too many injuries. All good things come to an end.”

Instead, Bez will take up a new role as compere and DJ on the tour, which is due to kick off at the Newcastle Academy on May 3rd. Happy Mondays are also booked for a series of European festival appearances this summer.
