Australasia’s festival circuit has taken another blow today with the news that its Good Vibrations event has been cancelled.

Beginning in 2004 in Australia, the festival is promoted by Sydney nightclub owner and entrepreneur Justin Hemmes, and has been held annually since its inception in Centennial Park. Quoted in The Daily Telegraph newspaper, Hemmes has said the event will be ‘rested’ this year, while plans for 2013 will be disclosed in due course.

“We will not be going ahead with the festival this year,” he explains. “We will be in touch in due course regarding plans for 2013.”

In highlighting the ‘competitive demand for artists resulting in higher artist fees, unpredictable weather and a shifting live music market’, Hemmes did however leave open the possibility of a rescheduling for later in the year.

The decision follows the announcement earlier this year that the New Zealand leg of the Big Day Out festival would not be continuing, with ‘soil, economic and cultural changes’ blamed.
