Pulp will be handed the Teenage Cancer Trust Outstanding Contribution to Music prize at this month’s NME Awards.

The Sheffield band, who reunited last year for a series of festival and headline appearances, will also perform live at the ceremony which frontman Jarvis Cocker has hosted in the past.

“Pulp are one of the wittiest, cleverest and most brilliant bands the UK has ever produced,” NME editor Krissi Murison has said.

The band have recently confirmed their series of 2011 comeback shows will now continue into this year, with various US and European dates booked. Their expanding 2012 tour itinerary will include appearances at the Coachella festival in April.

Pulp’s Britpop contemporary Noel Gallagher will also be honoured at the event, when he is presented with the Godlike Genius award, in addition to nominations in the Best British Male and Best Album categories.

This year’s NME Awards will take place at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on February 29th.
