London Olympics closing ceremony will be ‘an elegant mash-up of British music’

london2012 logoThe plans for the closing ceremony of this summer’s London Olympics will deliver ‘an elegant mash-up of British music’, according to the event’s music director Kim Gavin.

With the likes of Adele and Coldplay rumoured to have been approached with a view to appearing at the ceremony, Gavin has said the mini-concert will aim to celebrate British talent from across the musical spectrum.

“Without saying we have booked anyone, it goes from Elgar to Adele,” he said. “It is not just a pop concert, it is not just a classical rendition. It will be everything that we think is fabulous about British music.”

“We are taking a box of fabulously well-done tunes. We are putting them together to write one piece of music that is fabulously balanced.”

“Usually it is something classical but in this case it is an elegant mash-up of British music. It will not be just about the music but also about what makes Britain great. We are trying to introduce something that is an absolute melting pot of British creativity.”

Sir Paul McCartney and Muse are also amongst the acts tipped in some quarters to make an appearance, while Ronnie Wood recently revealed he has received invites to perform with both The Rolling Stones and The Faces.
