Coldplay have welcomed their Brit Awards success this week, admitting that they no longer take their recognition for granted.

“We don’t take winning these things for granted anymore – it’s lovely,” frontman Chris Martin has said. “It’s a bit nerve-wracking but if you can get past that first 30 seconds then you kind of relax into it. Also, I think the audience need to see you let lose before they do. It takes a minute but then it gets really fun.”

Coldplay came out on top in the British Group category, though Martin has claimed their passage to glory was made easier due to recent inactivity from other major UK bands.

“To be honest, most British bands have split up,” he continued. “Blur have gone, Pulp have gone, Take That are on holiday; we’re the only British band left on the pitch! But we’ll take that.”

Martin opened the Brits ceremony on Tuesday (February 21st) with Coldplay, performing new single ‘Charlie Brown‘, and later joined Noel Gallagher for a rendition of ‘AKA…What a Life!‘.
