Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has revealed he fully expects to lose out to Adele in the British Album category at the Brit Awards later this month.

“Unless Adele somehow deletes her albums, I think we can come to the conclusion that (we won’t win that award), I’m pretty sure of it,” Martin told Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2.

Later, Martin also spoke of the band’s continuing love affair with award ceremonies, but warned fans not to expect them to be walking the red carpet on the night.

“We haven’t done a red carpet for a long time,” he continued. “We love these things, but red carpets are more for nice ladies. We look like the cleaners coming in to vacuum up!”

“You can be one of those artists that don’t really care about them or you can, like us, love it, and we’re always so grateful to be included. It’s a kind of Olympics for a band; it’s nice to win a medal.”

In addition to the British Album category, Coldplay are also in the running for the British Group prize, where they face competition from the Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Elbow and Chase & Status.
