The Maccabees: ‘Guitar music will never go out of fashion’

The Maccabees have shrugged off the much-discussed commercial struggles of many guitar bands at the moment, insisting rock music will never go out of fashion.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat as their third album ‘Given To The Wild‘ sits at number four on the UK chart, guitarist Felix White remarked: “You don’t hear as many indie guitar bands as you used to, or see as many around. But it doesn’t mean they’re not there. The great thing about guitar music is that it never really goes out of fashion.”

In the face of declining album sales, The Maccabees have themselves just enjoyed the best first week sales of their career, but frontman Orlando Weeks claims there is no secret formula to winning a boost in popularity.

“I have no idea,” said Weeks on the reasons for their longevity. “I don’t know if there is a secret thing we’ve done that other people forgot to do, or didn’t do. Maybe it’s like the fallow field. You got to let it have a bit of time off so that when it comes back it has more to it.”
