The Black Keys blame Nickelback for unfashionable rock

blackkeysThe Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney has said the current struggles for mainstream achievements in the rock world can be put down to the head-scratching success of Nickelback.

“Rock and roll is dying because people became OK with Nickelback being the biggest band in the world,” Carney told Rolling Stone.

“So they became OK with the idea that the biggest rock band in the world is always going to be shit – therefore you should never try to be the biggest rock band in the world. **** that.”

“Rock and roll is the music I feel the most passionately about, and I don’t like to see it ruined and spoon-fed down our throats in this watered-down, post-grunge crap, horrendous shit.”

For their own part, The Black Keys are enjoying an ever-increasing growth in popularity in the UK, and will play three sold out shows at the London Alexandra Palace as part of a wider UK tour next month.
