New Primal Scream album ‘a critique of pop culture’

Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie has said the band’s forthcoming new album will be an antidote to what he sees as a lack of social commentary in modern music.

“Some of it is a critique of pop culture, which is something I think is lacking in a lot of modern music,” Gillespie told Sky News of the record. “It seems that nobody’s got anything to say anymore.

“I got into Deerhunter and Panda Bear, and I like their music, but it’s kinda vague. And I guess that’s the attraction. Maybe people feel safe being vague. We grew up with punk, and it was anything but vague, y’know. ‘God Save The Queen’. I’m not saying things were better when I was a teenager, but it was a different aesthetic.”

Earlier this week, Gillespie revealed the release date of Primal Scream’s tenth studio LP will not be cemented until they sign a new record deal.
