Bobby Gillespie invites Bez to join Primal Scream

Primal Scream‘s search for a new bass player following Mani‘s return to The Stone Roses is well underway, and one unlikely candidate has already ruled himself out.

“I asked Bez last month,” Bobby Gillespie jokingly told NME. “I was at an awards ceremony and Bez said to me, ‘What are you gonna do now that Mani’s gone?’ and I said, ‘Can you play the bass, Bez?’ How cool would that be? Bass and maracas! He was like, ‘I’d love to do it Bob, but I can’t fucking play!'”

Later, Gillespie gave some rather more serious details on the Scream’s future plans, and confirmed My Bloody Valentine‘s Kevin Shields has made a guest appearance on their forthcoming album. “Kevin Shields is playing guitar on one song, and hopefully Kev’s gonna mix a few too,” he revealed.

Primal Scream’s tenth studio album is expected to be released at some point this year, though with the band currently without a record deal, Gillespie has admitted they will have to ‘get that sorted first’ before any more concrete plans can be made.
