This year’s X Factor winners and last week’s chart toppers Little Mix look set to miss out on the traditional UK Christmas Number One, with The Military Wives Choir currently winning this year’s race amid reports of sales surpassing 300,000 on its first day alone.

After dominating the Christmas charts recently, this would be the second time in three years that Simon Cowell‘s reality series has missed out on the top spot, after a Facebook campaign successfully pushed Rage Against The Machine‘s ‘Killing In The Name‘ to number one back in 2009.

A similar campaign this year centred around Nirvana‘s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit‘, which was enough to see the track installed as second favourites for the end of year accolade. However, it now looks to be set to fall short, standing at the moment at #6.

Top 10 Midweek Singles:

1/ The Military Wives Choir w/ Gareth Malone – ‘Wherever You Are’
2/ Little Mix – ‘Cannonball’
3/ Lou Monte – ‘Dominick The Donkey’
