The Stone Roses have signed record deals in both the UK and US ahead of an expected new album release next year, reports The Sun newspaper.

The tabloid quotes a spokesperson for the band confirming they have signed to Universal Music and Columbia following frontman Ian Brown‘s admission that himself and John Squire had begun writing new songs almost immediately after their reconcilliation earlier this year.

“The Stone Roses are pleased to announce that they have signed a record contract with Universal Music in London and with Columbia Records in New York,” the paper quotes the spokesperson as saying.

The Stone Roses were quick to talk of the future when they rubber stamped their reunion last October, and are set to air new material when their busy summer of headline gigs and festival appearances gets under way.

Although they were ruled out of an emotional return to the Reading Festival this summer, the Roses have already been confirmed for T In The Park, and are also strongly tipped to headline 2012’s V Festival.
