The National Working On ‘Some Of The Best Songs They’ve Ever Written’

The National frontman Matt Berninger has said the songs currently being worked on by his bandmate Aaron Dessner are “some of the best things he’s ever written”.

Berninger revealed Dessner’s new life as a father has been influencing his writing, which is “less academic and cerebral” than previous efforts.

“We’re getting really excited about the new record already,” he continued in an interview with Jam. “So we might dive into the writing process right away. I feel we’re kind of ready.

“Of course, all that being said, it all may change completely – six months from now we might just throw everything away that we’ve been working on and start from scratch. You never know.”

With four critically acclaimed albums already under their belt by the time of the release of ‘High Violet‘ last year, The National finally began to marry their deserved status as one of the most respected US rock acts of the last decade with some genuine commercial recognition, and saw ‘High Violet’ peak as high as #5 on the UK Album Chart following its release in May 2010.
