Last month, a Facebook campaign was launched in a bid to make the single Christmas Number One, and Nirvana were promptly named as second favourites for the traditional title – behind the eventual winner of this year’s X Factor.
And now Nirvana’s management have lent their support to the campaign, and will release ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ on 7″ vinyl in time for the festive season.
“We’ve heard about the campaign to get ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ by Nirvana for Christmas Number One in the UK (supporting the children’s charity Rhythmix) and it looks like the label will re-release the single 7″ as a limited edition for the fans,” reads a post on the Nirvana Facebook page.
Facebook campaigns have become a regular feature of the race for the Christmas Number One in Britain over recent years since fans successfully broke the Simon Cowell monopoly when Rage Against The Machine hit the top spot back in 2009.
