People from the music world including Alan McGee and Billy Bragg have been lending their tributes to former Clash legend Joe Strummer who died nine years ago today (December 22nd).

“Today we remember our brother Joe Strummer, who died on this day in 2002,” wrote Billy Bragg on Facebook. “The music he made still resonates. As London burned this summer, his words came to mind “White youth, black youth, better find another solution. Why not phone up Robin Hood and ask him for some wealth distribution?”

While in a column for the Huffington Post, Alan McGee described Strummer as being ‘forever missed’ and likened the iconic frontman to other true greats such as John Lennon and Elvis Presley.

“Long may you rock and roll, Joe Strummer,” McGee has said. “Forever missed and loved by Clash fans worldwide and he always will be. Long may you run. Apart from Elvis or Lennon, nobody has ever been that cool again in rock’n’roll.”

Joe Strummer’s untimely passing occurred suddenly on December 22nd, 2002, and was later found to have been the result of an undiagnosed congenital heart defect.
