Damon Albarn and rap legends De La Soul were the surprise guests at a Gorillaz Sound System gig yesterday (December 1st).
The gig was a unique spin-off of Albarn’s cartoon band, and featured new mixes of Gorillaz tracks aired along with special visual effects. Albarn appeared onstage with De La Soul behind a massive curtain at London’s 100 Club for a performance of ‘Feel Good Inc‘, where he was joined by images of 2-D and Murdoc.
Not everything went smoothly however, and when the track was forced to be restarted, Albarn told the crowd: “In our defence we have just walked here onstage and we didn’t know how this was going to be played.”
The show was arranged to celebrate the release of the Gorillaz career retrospective ‘The Singles Collection: 2001-2011‘, and also featured re-workings of other favourites such as ‘Clint Eastwood‘, ‘DARE‘ and ‘Dirty Harry‘.
