Big Day Out festival organiser Ken West has revealed the event missed out on booking Prince, Blink 182 and Eminem for this year’s bash.

West told the New Zealand Herald Big Day Out offered Eminem $6 million (£3,848,301) to no avail, and explained how they were let down by two other major acts despite being led to believe a deal with the pair was close.

“We got asked over a year ago by Prince’s representation, saying ‘We really want to do the Big Day Out. So we spent a year working that forward,” he said.

“At the same time we had Blink-182 chasing us for a year. Saying, ‘This’ll get Travis on the plane.’ Neither happened. It just kept going to the end of the line and nobody actually ever said no.”

Instead the festival, which will take place in Australia and New Zealand throughout January and February next year, will be headlined by Soundgarden, Kanye West and Kasabian.
