Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner insists he never felt like a natural singer, and has had to work hard to grow into his role as the focal point of one of the UK’s biggest bands.

“I was never a singer,” Turner is quoted as saying in The Sun newspaper. “I have had to practice at that and writing melodies is something that didn’t come naturally. I was more comfortable writing lyrics. I am still working on it but I think we are getting there with the singing thing.”

Turner also insisted he has ‘forgotten’ how to write a hit single, adding that he doesn’t know “…what that is any more, it’s a different landscape these days.”

Arctic Monkeys recently completed a US tour in support of the 2011 album ‘Suck It and See‘, with Turner declaring his delight at the positive response his band has received in North America during the course of the past twelve months.
