U2 frontman Bono has blamed what he perceives as a disappointing performance from the band at their long-awaited Glastonbury headline appearance last June partly on the bad weather which affected the festival’s opening day.
In conversation with Q Magazine, Bono explained how the stage was ‘like an ice rink’ due to persistent heavy rain during the Friday, and also flagged up a lack of keyboards due to an accident off stage.
“There were a couple of things,” he explained. “There was a DJ under the stage, playing music in between sets, and he bumped into our keyboard computer. So we lost all the keyboards. I walked out and realised that the stage was like an ice rink and I was wearing the wrong shoes. I couldn’t move – I was stuck on the spot. We were a bit freaked out.”
U2 headlined the Pyramid Stage a year after they had to pull out of Glastonbury due to a back injury sustained by Bono. On that occasion, they were replaced by Damon Albarn‘s Gorillaz.
