New Yorkers The Walkmen will head back into the studio to begin recording a new album within the next few weeks, reports Pitchfork.

The band are said to be aiming for a summer 2012 release, with The Shins and Fleet Foxes cohort Phil Ek set to man the producer’s chair for the sessions.

The album will be The Walkmen’s first since 2010’s brilliant ‘Lisbon‘. With highlights including the stirring brass of ‘Stranded‘ and the melodic power of ‘Angela Surf City‘, the LP remains a stunning exponent of US alternative rock and one of the stand-out releases of recent years.

In addition, The Walkmen will mark their 10 year anniversary next year with a series of tour dates and a first ever vinyl release of their debut album. Shows in Chicago and San Francisco have already been announced, while ‘Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone‘ is due on January 10th, 2012.
