Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody has been describing the anguish he went through when suffering with writer’s block following the release of the band’s 2008 album ‘A Hundred Million Suns‘.

Lightbody was speaking on BBC Breakfast this morning (November 15th), when he admitted he ‘couldn’t write a single word’ such was the severity of his songwriting blackout.

“Oh God, I never want to go through that again,” he said. “You’ve done the thing that you do every day of your life for 16 years and suddenly it’s removed from you.

“I just couldn’t write a single word. I was terrified. I couldn’t pick up my laptop, my notepad, or anything, for fear that I was going to sit there and stagnate. I was actually catatonic for most of it.”

Snow Patrol released their sixth album ‘Fallen Empires‘ last week, which has been preceded by the singles ‘Called Out In The Dark‘ and ‘This Isn’t Everything You Are‘.
