Slow Moving Millie, the singer whose cover of The Smiths classic ‘Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want‘ is currently being used to soundtrack John Lewis’ festive advert, has said both Morrissey and Johnny Marr have been extremely positive about her version of their former band’s b-side.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, the singer, real name Amelia Warner, revealed that Morrissey has described her cover as “delightful”, while guitarist Johnny Marr “thinks it’s great”.

Despite the praise from its main protagonists, the use of the track for a commercial has angered many Smiths devotees, and Warner has admitted that while Morrissey and Marr are content with her work, the reaction she has received on Twitter suggests their fans are not quite as enamoured.

“I’ve had a few people being furious at me on Twitter, saying, ‘How dare you?’, but I haven’t done anything to the original,” she continued. “I think you’ll find it still exists.”

According to recent reports, ‘Please Please Please…’, originally issued on the flip side of ‘William, It Was Really Nothing‘, will be re-released just after the festive season following its new found exposure to Christmas shoppers up and down the land.
