Peter Buck Talks Of Sadness At REM Split

rem1Former REM guitarist Peter Buck has told The Guardian newspaper it makes him ‘sad’ to think he is likely to never perform the band’s songs again.

REM announced their split earlier this year, and Buck told the UK paper he cannot at the present time envisage any situation which would get himself, Michael Stipe and Mike Mills back onstage together again.

“There’s a good chance we’ll never play together again,” he said. “And that’ll make me feel sad, except for the fact that I played those songs a lot for a long time. I can’t imagine anything in this moment that would cause us to use the name REM and play songs again.”

And looking back on their decision to call it a day, Buck insisted any financial gains which the band could’ve continued to enjoy was not enough of an incentive to keep going.

“We could be out there right now making a billion. But we’d be doing it for the money, and we’ve never done anything for the money.”

REM released their final album, ‘Collapse Into Now‘, back in March.
