Anthony Kiedis: Red Hot Chili Peppers Fans ‘Slowly Accepted Us’

Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis has said the commercial success his band have enjoyed during the course of the last decade was not a conscious effort on their part to move into the mainstream, and is instead due to the record buying public becoming accustomed to their sound over the years.

“I think the audience became suitable to us over the years. We never made a decision to become more suitable, the audience slowly accepted us for who we are,” he told the Daily Record newspaper. “At the start, we were crass and brash and unpalatable for the masses.”

“It’s still one night – that’s what it feels like. We never thought about being a rock n’roll band,” he continued on the band’s live shows. “We only wanted to play one night and that’s how we keep it alive. We all have a different type of intelligence and we want to honour the things that put us where we are and that keep us there.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers continue a UK arena tour tomorrow night (November 12th) at the Glasgow SECC Hall.
