Noel Gallagher‘s debut solo album ‘Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds‘ is on course to top the UK Album chart this week according to midweek figures released yesterday.

The former Oasis legend’s maiden solo outing was expected to face stiff competition from X Factor winner Matt Cardle‘s own first record ‘Letters‘, but is described by some sources as being ‘well ahead’ of his younger rival for the top spot on Sunday.

If ‘…High Flying Birds’ does soar to the top spot, it would continue an impressive run of chart success for Gallagher Sr, potentially landing him his eighth consecutive number one studio album following previous hits with Oasis stretching back to 1994.

Elsewhere, Kasabian‘s latest release ‘Velociraptor!‘ could drop a few places, currently standing at #14, while M83‘s ‘Hurry Up We’re Dreaming‘ is at the moment a new entry at #34.
