Manic Street Preachers Will ‘Disappear For Quite a Long Time’

manicstreetpreaCHERSManic Street Preachers bass player Nicky Wire has reiterated his belief that the band are about to take a prolonged break from music once the final note dies down at their ambitious London O2 Arena gig this coming December.

Since announcing plans for their forthcoming singles collection ‘National Treasures‘, and with promotional duties for the 2010 album ‘Postcards From a Young Man‘ now completed, Wire has previously outlined his band’s intention to step back from music for a good while.

And now, in an interview with NME, the outspoken guitarist has again spoke of the plans, saying: “It’s the end of an era, not the end of the band but we’re going to disappear for quite a long time.”

‘National Treasures’ will contain every single released by the Welsh band during the course of their two-decade career, one of which, 1994’s ‘Faster‘, frontman James Dean Bradfield has admitted he didn’t initially see as an obvious choice for release when handed the track’s lyrics by Richey Edwards.

“When Richey gave me the lyrics to ‘Faster’ I didn’t realise it was a single,” he said. “I think that’s the reason ‘The Holy Bible‘ has stood the test of time is that the album tracks are better than the singles.”

‘National Treasures’ is due for release on October 31st.
