Former Stone Roses drummer Reni has cooled the latest round of speculation regarding a possible reunion for the Manchester legends after appearing to inform NME he will not be a part of any reformation.
Not for the first time, whispers of a return for the Roses spread like wildfire yesterday (October 14th) after a major music PR called a London press conference for this coming Tuesday, with the intention of making a ‘very important announcement’, without disclosing which band or artist the conference had been arranged for.
The lack of concrete details only helped to fuel the rumours, with many deciding for themselves that Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni will be the musicians in question.
However, amidst the growing rumours, Reni appears to have made the possible reunion less likely after sending a message to NME which simply reads: “Not before 9T will I wear the hat 4 the Roses again.”
The Stone Roses released their classic self-titled debut in 1989, but thanks to record company issues and inter-band tensions didn’t release the follow-up, ‘The Second Coming‘, until 1994. After a gradual disintegration, the band finally split in less than ideal circumstances in 1996.
Not before 9T will I wear the hat 4 the roses again.
9T = 9am Tuesday. The time and day of the press conference this coming Tuesday.
It wasn’t at 9am though. It was at 3pm.
There is a big 9T in the middle of the poster for the upcoming shows. Take from that what you will.
