Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has said he feels like the “world just hates us” as he has a habit of dwelling on the negative press his band receives.

Martin made the admission to Spin as Coldplay went to number one in the UK with ‘Mylo Xyloto‘, and also feels some perceive the group to be merely a money-making vehicle due to the huge success they have enjoyed in recent years.

“Some people misconstrue our band just to be a commercial venture,” he said. “They question the soulfulness of Coldplay because we’ve done okay. Maybe it’s because I’m English.”

“But in terms of how people perceive us I only pick up on the negative side of it. I always feel like the big bad outside world just hates us.”

‘Mylo Xyloto’ looks set to be another big-selling release for Coldplay, but has received at best a mixed response from critics, with NME for one writing in their review that Coldplay have, “done the selfless thing and gone out to protect EMI’s share price.”
