The Kooks ‘Struggled With Identity’ Before New Album

thekooks1The Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard has said his band’s struggles with their identity led to them scrapping large portions of new material, before they settled into a more relaxed state of mind which eventually led to ‘Junk Of The Heart‘.

Quoted in The Sun newspaper, Pritchard explained the troubles The Kooks had in the studio before they managed to re-discover what they believe defines them as a band.

“Your first album, you’re just kids and you’re just doing what comes natural,” he said. “The second one came off the back of touring. We did it very quickly. On the third one, you’re trying to figure out who you are. You tend to struggle with your identity.

“So the pressure of that was just overthinking it. That’s why we scrapped half an album – we were overthinking what we were doing. Once we stopped doing that, all the tunes came really quick and easy.”

‘Junk Of The Heart’ was released earlier this month and broke into the Top 10 on the UK Album Chart.
