The Inspiral Carpets are to begin work on new material despite the departure of frontman Tom Hingley this year, reports the Guardian.

The paper claims the band, now reunited with Stephen Holt on vocals, are ‘rediscovering their garage roots’, and will record a new album this month.

After Tom Hingley appeared to claim his leaving of the band would lead to their split, Clint Boon moved to clear up any confusion on Twitter, writing: “We had a nice meeting yesterday, shook hands and went our separate ways. We wish Tom all the best in his solo career.”

After forming in 1983, the Inspiral Carpets enjoyed the peak of their success during the so-called ‘Madchester’ movement of the late 80s/early 90s, achieving their biggest UK hit in March 1990 with ‘This Is How It Feels‘.

The Guardian also claims the band are now planning a world tour, and hope to hit South America next month.
