Manchester band The Courteeners have announced two hometown shows to take place this coming December.

The band, who released second album ‘Falcon‘ last year, will play gigs on the 8th and 9th of December at the Manchester Apollo, writing on Facebook that they have chosen ‘the more intimate surroundings of the Apollo’ this time round after an impressive date at the city’s MEN Arena last December.

The Courteeners have been described as ‘the biggest cult band in Britain’ after building a loyal following since the release of debut single ‘Cavorting‘ in 2007, which culminated with the aforementioned arena date at the end of 2010.

Despite receiving only a mixed response from critics, debut album ‘St. Jude‘s brand of chorus-heavy guitar anthems proved a big hit with fans, while follow-up ‘Falcon’ enjoyed more favourable reviews, which generally pointed to a more mature sound as compared to their debut.

The band are expected to release their third studio effort next year.
